Biography
Bob Jones - Baritone
I grew up in the Los Angeles area of Southern California. I was raised
in an upper middle class family with Christian values and attended church
regularly. I always had an understanding of the Gospel as a member of a
Christian family, but never really personalized my faith until age thirty.
I had a wonderful Christian grandmother who assured me that someday I
would feel a need for Jesus in my life. This happened as my wife and I
were about to bring our first child, Cameron, into the world. I can
remember discussing with my wife, Sharon, that we had plenty of money and
friends…What else does anyone need ? We spent and traveled….I felt we
had no real needs. I needed more of a reason to live a complete life than
to work and spend money.
I was visited by our Pastor who guided me to a realization that I
needed to ask Jesus into my life. What a difference this has made in my
life as an individual, husband and father. My grandmother had begun the
process fifteen years earlier!
As a recently retired school teacher, I wasn't exactly sure what God
had planned for my future. I was active in my church in choir, facilities
and AWANA. I am involved in a large men's
Barbershop Chorus and sing in a
quartet. Then came the formation of the Glory Gates Quartet.
Through my involvement with the Glory Gates Quartet and participation
in a short term mission trip to Romania in 2003, the Lord has encouraged
me to use my voice to serve him in my retirement years. What started out
as just a low key idea to sing in church at times has blossomed into a
wonderful way to use our voices in worship, outreach and just plain old
fun singing our hearts out with the enthusiastic Southern Gospel
tradition. What an exciting and uplifting way to worship !
My wife and I graduated from
Occidental College in Los Angeles. After
getting married we moved to Mission Viejo to raise our family. Sharon and
I recently retired from teaching after 36 years. We have two great kids, a
daughter, Cameron, who is married and is a political science instructor at
the community college level. Our son, Chris, is currently attending
Orange
Coast College.
We raised our family at the
Christ Community Church of Laguna Hills,
Ca. We have a wonderful network of friends and family living in southern
orange County. We have worshipped at our church for about 31 years. What a
great source of comfort and strength our church has been for our family
over the years.
I am having the time of my life. What more could one ask than to be
able to help people worship and share the Gospel of Jesus Christ at home
and abroad using my voice with the Glory Gates Quartet.
